Theory test
The theory test centre is situated in Tower House 3rd floor Fairfax Street Broadmead. Both parts of the test must be passed first before you can apply for your practical test. The test certificate lasts for 2 years.
I can lend you a copy of the 'theory CD-rom' free of charge to study for the test. Theory test bookings should be made once you are confident and scoring over 30 in the multiple choice section and over 44 in the hazard perception. Training can be given toward the theory test, if required, during lesson time. I can give you more information when we meet.
Driving test
You will need to be able to demonstrate a safe and competent level of driving at all times. When you can confidently and consistently deal with all road and traffic conditions and complete each of the set manoeuvres first time, you are ready to take the driving test.
What to expect
Things to take with you:- both parts of your driving licence, your theory test certificate and your DSA booking confirmation letter.
You will be asked to sign a declaration form stating that the car is insured for the purpose of the test and that you are a resident of the UK. Before you get into the car the examiner will ask you to read a car registration plate from approximately 20.5 metres and will then ask you 2 questions from the 'show me tell me' question bank.
The driving test will last for approximately 40 minutes and will include the following conditions:-
Main, urban and back roads.
Dual carriageways with speeds up to the national speed limit of 70 mph.
Country roads up to a national speed limit of 60mph.
You will be expected to perform 2 of the set manoeuvres:-
Turn in the road.
Reverse to the left.
Parallel park or bay park.
You may be asked to carry out the emergency stop, although this is not one of the manoeuvres. You will be asked to pull up on the left hand side in a safe and convenient place and then pull away again, possibly on a hill and from behind a parked car.
At the end of the test the examiner will inform you of the result. The examiner will offer you a debrief on the result, it is a good idea to listen to this especially if you did not pass.
